Google Handing Out Bit Money To Find Big Flaws
No comments · Posted by Sean Smith in Digital Marketing, Google, Wesbite Traffic
In a world where more and more people are spending their time online, some of the biggest tech companies in the world are taking interesting new steps in order to make sure they are providing security. For decades, banks and other financial institutions have been hiring “security experts” who are usually retired thieves to break into their establishments and report back on any weaknesses they find. By hiring the very people who have a vested interest in finding security weaknesses, these firms knew they were going to be getting a thorough reporting. Facebook has been one company that has taken this theory into the digital age and now it appears that Google is making news by hiring hackers to check out its flagship browser the Google Chrome.
Google has actually been hiring hackers for a while now in order to find and report different flaws in their browser and earlier this year the company had handed out more than $47,000 in checks to several different “researchers” who reported important flaws and security holes. Most of these researchers were people who were able to work over a long period of time with Google and find flaws that really were dragging Google Chrome down. While that nearly $50,000 payout might seem like a tidy sum, the company has also managed to take their payout to a whole new level with Google’s latest Chrome-focused bug bounty contest which hits $1 million.
The company offered up this huge bounty at the CanSecWest conference. This particular get together is a massive hacker convention that has companies from all over the world participating in these kinds of contests that are geared towards people finding massive security flaws for big money. Of course, it would appear that in order to win such a huge bounty payout, a hacker or “researcher” would have to find something that would be extremely harmful to the company’s browser. Finding something wrong with the programming for the background color is not going to net people that kind of money. Google is betting, laying out that money, that there are not any flaws big enough to merit the payout.

WordPress is Booming.

Today, many people are utilizing the power of the internet to either stay in communication with people with similar interests, or to generate an online source of income for personal freedom and flexibility. Fortunately, the WordPress platform is not only very easy to use, but it can also be an extremely effective way to develop a quick blog or website with almost no experience. However, even given the simplicity of using WordPress to develop a website, the results are often extremely professional and provide a great looking site with a lot of functionality.
Choosing a WordPress format is made especially easy given the fact that there are literally millions of great themes you can pick from, many of which are completely free of charge. These themes can be cute and whimsical or completely professional and impressive, but regardless of the theme, the excellence of WordPress ease of use is always an important factor. In fact, the average person can have a site up and running in a very short amount of time. For the online entrepreneur a site specializing in ecommerce with WordPress can be an effective and easy way to begin driving traffic to their products, but these sites can be used for almost anything you can imagine.
There is no doubt that WordPress has experienced a significant boom, but this is largely attributed to its ease of use as well as the flexibility which allows it to be a great application for both personal and business needs. This easy to use platform may seem a little confusing to the novice, but once you jump in you will quickly discover how user intuitive it is to navigate and customize. Additionally, when you get stuck on a particular problem, there are many people who will help with forum support. Developer modules and other features of the WordPress experience are helping to ensure that casual to professional users all have a good experience.
For today’s blogger or internet marketer, WordPress seems to be the ideal platform for developing a beautiful and functional website. In fact, one of the best things with this type of platform is the simplicity in making customized changes to your site. Each theme has its own inherent design elements and of course, some will be much easier to modify than others, but for the most part, making design changes and implementing features is extremely easy to master.

Freezone Internet’s Remote Desktop Support.
No comments · Posted by Sean Smith in Blogs, Digital Marketing, Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Small business, Small businesses, Support, Web Hosting
Freezone Internet, the UK’s top web hosting company, has created yet another way to serve their customers. Listening to their customers’ complaints about the traditional technical support, Freezone has decided to implement a remote desktop customer support.
Traditional tech support often involves lengthy phone conversations and irritated customers. Especially if the customer is unfamiliar with computers and their programs. Remote support, on the other hand, allows a tech advisor to access the user’s computer from theirs. Freezone uses this set-up to do everything from setting up email addresses, to setting up web hosting.
Although the thought of giving a stranger access to something as private as a computer may give some people pause, the remote desktop access at Freezone Internet is completely safe. It takes place over a secure and encrypted connection, which helps to make sure hackers cannot access any information, and if a customer is having trouble with a website that involves identifying information such as credit card numbers or birthdays, those fields are blocked from the support staff’s view. In addition, the sessions are completely under customer control, giving them the ability to shut down the link whenever they choose.
For those who do not have a land-line, or those who simply do not wish to tie it up with a long customer service phone call, Freezone offers easy & reliable alternatives. Their support staff, consisting of experienced CSRs, or customer service representatives, can offer assistance via chat as well. There are three steps to beginning a remote session:
Step 1 - Call or connect to the chat site, and ask for a remote support session.
Step 2 – Once an agent has responded, click the ‘generate code’ button, give code to agent, and do not close the window.
Step 3 - Follow all on-screen prompts.
If there is a problem with your computer, or you simply could use some help with a webpage, why not try Freezone Internet’s new remote desktop customer support services instead of going the old route? With its exceptional safety, ease of use, and reliability, it marks the future of customer service.

Redefining Web Hosting In The Age Of Social Media
No comments · Posted by Sean Smith in Digital Marketing, Facebook, Google, Social Media, Twitter
Facebook, Google 1+, Twitter and other social networking sites have had a major impact on web hosting. While in times past it was enough to have a website, most companies now have accounts on all the social network sites mentioned above, along with a blog and YouTube account. Anyone who wants to create an online retail site or profitable blog or website will need to take advantage of social media and all that it has to offer.
Facebook has hundreds of millions of users. A business that wants to engage with potential clients in a friendly manner should open up a business (not personal) Facebook page. This page can be used for advertising special offers and discounts. It also allows a business owner to have friendly conversations with clients and potential buyers.
Google 1 +
Google’s new site may not be as popular as Facebook, but it already has tens of millions of users. Google has also promised that Google + sites will get good search engine ratings. This means that a business that wants to get higher search engine ratings for its website or blog should create a Google + account.
Twitter is one of the most popular forms of social media. Many people turn to Twitter to find out the latest news and a business will want to target such individuals by creating a Twitter account to go with the business website. There are many Twitter applications that can be used in conjunction with this form of social media, in order to help one space out tweets, keep track of tweets, follow and unfollow people and more.
YouTube
YouTube is yet another very important form of social media. It is owned by Google and so Google gives relevant YouTube videos good search engine ratings. No matter what type of website or blog one has, he or she can make one or more videos relating to the site and then post these on YouTube with a link back to the site.
Anyone who wants to have a successful website should consider these forms of social media indispensable. Web hosting without social networking sites is simply not successful as it once was. In order for a website to gain a lot of traffic, it should have social network sites that help to back it up.

Building your prospect database
No comments · Posted by Freezone in Digital Marketing, Email Marketing, Web Hosting
Identifying a continuous source of good prospects to help grow revenue is a challenge facing every business. It is, therefore, a surprise to see many businesses failing to exploit obvious opportunities to build their prospect database.
Of course, one easy but potentially expensive option is to buy data from list brokers. However, there is no guarantee of quality.
Adding data capture form on brochures and encouraging existing customers to ‘refer a friend’ is another.
However, one more obvious and significantly more effective option is to capture visitors’ emails through your website. Of course, you can add a ‘register’ button. However, keeping the process as short as possible is key to encouraging more visitors to provide their contact details. You are more likely to attract greater response if you ask visitors to simply provide their email address compared with asking them to fill in a more detailed form. Once you have their email address, you can always ask them to complete a detailed profile at a later stage.
Importantly, prospects captured through your website are much more responsive as they have already demonstrated their interest in your product / service by visiting your website.
So if you don’t already have an option to capture visitor emails, speak to your web hosting company today to ensure that your web hosting package includes a database option. In fact, there is a good chance that your web hosting company can help you amend your website to include email capture facility.
Don’t let visitors to your website click away to your competitors – capture their email and establish a dialogue to grow your business.

Setting up an account is quick and simple – of course, you can always get help from your web hosting company if you need it. In fact, your web hosting company or your web developer should also be able to integrate your Twitter account into your blog and Facebook page.

Holiday (business) blues

Suddenly the roads are empty, the Chelsea tractors have almost disappeared and the peace in households with children has evaporated into the hot English Summer air.
Yes, the schools are closed and kids have invaded every shopping mall in the country – you leave the office to grab a sandwich at your peril!
Well, it’s not that bad – not at least from a business point of view. Parents’ struggle to keep their children occupied over the holiday period is an opportunity for businesses to play their role.
If you have any products / services aimed at school-age children, now is best time to increase your marketing efforts.
Start with your website – fill it with useful offers. Think about partnerships with other similar businesses. Run regular email promotional offers. Either buy in or build your own email database – talk to your web hosting company to help you capture customer emails.
Your web hosting company may also be able to help you run Google adwords and search engine optimisation campaigns.
While some companies lament the onset of Summer holidays, there are others that relish the opportunity to up their game. Which one are you?

Make email your marketing weapon of choice
No comments · Posted by Freezone in Digital Marketing, Email Marketing, General Business, Web Hosting
According to a survey by eMarketer.com, 37% of online shoppers prefer receiving promotional offers by email. This is significantly greater than the more established direct mail channel (23%). And despite the near-universal use of texting, only 18% of online shoppers prefer this option.
Clearly, email should be the channel of choice for you to send promotional offers to your customers. If you are not exploiting it, you are losing out.
So, here are some tips for getting your email marketing started today.
Set up a regular promotional offer email
You can either set up a regular promotional email or send it out on an ad hoc basic – it all depends on the nature of your business. However, you don’t have to spend too much time on ‘designing’ the email – it’s more important to get the offer right. You could test different offers to a subset of your customers and then rollout the most effective one to the rest of your customer base.
Talk to your web hosting company
Before sending out any bulk emails, it is worth talking to your web hosting company first. Not only will it avoid any potential spamming issues, your web hosting company may also have the tools that allow you to manage the whole process.
Send out your promotional email today
Perhaps the most important advice we can offer is to test a promotional email – in fact, try it today. What do you have to lose?

Preparing graduates for a digital economy
No comments · Posted by Freezone in Digital Marketing, General Business, Web Hosting
Over the last few weeks or so we have been running some interviews for an undergraduate placement opportunity here at Freezone.
While I don’t subscribe to the suggestion that our education system has been dumbed down, there does seem to be a lack of concentration on digital marketing.
Even amongst those reading more commercial subjects with a focus on business or marketing, students seem very unfamiliar with basic terms such as domain name, web hosting and search engine marketing. (Familiarity with social media tends to be self driven rather than being ‘taught’ as part of a course.)
Given that practically most companies now have a website and use some sort of digital marketing and also given that channels such as direct mail are in decline, we need to ensure that our graduates are equipped with the right kind of knowledge and skills to succeed in a digital economy.
If there are any academic establishments looking to develop a practical curriculum for all things ‘web’, we would be happy to help.
