Man in the browser malware is an 'advanced threat'

Published Date: 13:26:53 08/02/2012

The man in the browser malware poses a very focussed, specific and advanced threat to internet users.

It is a particular danger to banking and can lie undetected in web browsers, while some of the software that is used to combat its dangers are narrowly focussed, Daniel Brett from S21Sec has warned.

Mr Brett said that many products may not pick up the malware, as they have a larger scope and have been defending against a wide number of viruses for many years.

He offered this advice to those worried about potential attacks: "Follow the advice of your bank. Get an up-to-date anti-virus, get any new tools that are effective and be vigilant."

The importance of adopting online security measures was recently underlined by the Identity Fraud Communications Awareness Group's chair Neil Munroe.

Mr Munroe believes that many workers do not take the threats of online security breaches with the same seriousness that is shown when it comes to physical documents.
