More Brits using search engines, study shows

Published Date: 13:23:39 09/02/2012

More Britons are now using search engines to find information online, with 2.3 billion visits to the sites recorded in January 2012.

This represents an increase from January 2011's 2.2 billion figure, with overall visits to search engines rising by 4.5 per cent year-on-year, figures from Experian Hitwise have revealed.

Google has also remained a dominant figure in the industry, increasing its UK market share search to more than 90 per cent.

James Murray, market research analyst at Experian Hitwise, said: "As search continues to grow marketers need the right tools at their fingertips to understand how they can maximise their search campaigns, to get traffic delivered to their website."

Google's dominant presence in the market has also been reflected by the Sociagility Top 50, which has named the search engine the world's best performing social brand.

Disney came in second place, with Apple, Starbucks and Blackberry completing the top five.
