Yorkshire councils facing more cyber attacks, research showsPublished Date: 13:18:38 14/02/2012
Councils across Yorkshire are being hit with a wide number of cyber attacks, a study has highlighted.
The county's authorities are facing up to 200 attacks every second, with criminals from across the globe attempting to compromise the vast amount of data that they hold, an investigation by the Yorkshire Post has found.
Hambleton District Council is one of the bodies that has been hacked into recently, and its leader Neville Huxtable said: "I felt absolutely shattered that somebody was able to get right into the heart of our operation."
Mr Huxtable continued by saying that the issue was very concerning for staff and residents, as a lot of information was stored on its network.
The importance of effective data security was recently illustrated by the Centre for Cyber Security's Mark Dampster, who advised that online security should be one of the most important considerations for internet users in the current day.
