Google+'s top ten brands prove dominant

Published Date: 13:12:06 21/02/2012

The top ten brands (the G+Ten) on Google+ represent more than three million of the 3.1 million followers obtained by the 100 most popular firms on the site, figures illustrate.

Clothing store H&M holds the number one spot, after collecting 462,000 followers, while Pepsi has attracted 350,000. The SocialShare Analysis by BrightEdge also found that there was a 1,400 per cent increase in the top 100 brands' overall followers in the last month.

Phillip Calvert, social media commentator and founder of Ifalife.com, recently predicted that social search will help to increase the popularity of Google+. He added that there is a huge amount of intrigue surrounding the service.

BrightEdge chief executive officer Jim Yu said: "While the growth of the G+ Ten is impressive, in contrast we have noticed many companies seem to be taking a slower, wait-and-see stance to the search giant's social offering."

Other brands in Google+'s top ten brands included Starbucks, Sony, Intel, eBay, Google and Amazon.
